I am a huge fan of the TV Show Medium. It is about a psychic who works for the District At tourney of Phoenix. Played by Patricia Arquette, the psychic has dreams about the future which not only solves crimes, but also prevents them from happening. This week, I really could have used her powers of premonition.
If I only knew that I would catch the flu that would put me out of commission for 4 days. I would have taken better care of myself and got more sleep.
If I only knew that the Virus Protection software upgrade we implemented on one of our servers is not compatible with the level of operating system on that server and would bring it down the day we launced a new video communication that is supported by that server. The day when the CEO and his direct reports would be gathering together to view the newest video. I would have had the server upgraded as well as the software.
If I only knew that the portal system would go down due to an issue with an update that was put in to accommodate the new time change this weekend on the last day managers had to get their performance reviews in. I would have asked for the time line to be extended.
If I only knew that there were some personal issues among some staff that were escalated when they ended up working together on a highly stressful assignment. I would have ... well not sure what I would have done in this case.
To be able to know ahead of time what was going to happen and to avoid these system issues, and staff issues would have made my week much better. Things like this happen, but usually not all in the same week. I don't know about you, but I am really glad it is Friday.
