While it did not get so bad as to dreading work, I just didn't feel engaged at work.
I was invited to a meeting for our Interns where our CEO was to present his 10 lessons of leadership. Since we have an intern in the program, I was asked to represent IT at this meeting.
Not knowing what this was going to entail, I was braced for just about anything. I had read some of these types of books from leaders like Jack Welsh, and of course Franklin Covey, and thought it was just going to be the same ole stuff.
However when he began presenting his principles and how he obtained them, I began to realize that this was something different.
His lessons were of his own making and he had personal stories to back each one of them up. I also found that as I learned more about him, his values and what he expects of himself and his leadership team, I found similarities between some of his values and my own.
I left the meeting feeling better about my job, the company and our leadership.
The next day at work, I came in with a fresh perspective, and feel better about the job I do and the company I work for.
Below are the lessons/values that I found in common with his.
- Remember where you came from
- Be Yourself
- Just be honest no matter how much it hurts
- Remember that a leaders job is to serve
- Don't give up... Don't ever give up
I will now begin the soul searching tasks of coming up with 5 additional ones to create my top 10 lessons/values for leadership.
I encourage you to do the same. If you feel like sharing them, please reply I would enjoy hearing from you.
