The past few weeks, I have been out and about representing IHRIM along with staff.
We attended the Oracle Human Resources User Group meeting and the HR XML Consortium both in Las Vegas. Than closer to home the HR Technology show in Chicago.
IHRIM attends these events in an effort to make our presence known. While we often run into our members at these events and are glad to see the IHRIM faithful, we also meet people who are eager to join our ranks.
Typically we hear "I have been looking for something like this" or "I used to belong, I need to re-join"
This year at the HR Tech show, we also heard a lot more of "My boss/coworker/colleague told me to stop by.... I would like to become a member"
These words are gold for a few reasons.
First - Our marketing message is getting out. Staff has been spending time and money getting our message to the HR community and it is working.
Second - People who know about us recommend us to their coworkers, thus creating instant credibility
Third - It represents real interest in our organization, and continually reinforces the benefits our members get from us.
As a membership organization, the value we add to each member grows as our membership grows. The more people you as a member have to network with, the greater the benefit to you.
If you know someone in HR that is not a member of IHRIM, tell them about us.
While it may be cliche, we really do grow 1 new member at a time.
